IISS"Vincenzo Cardarelli", Tarquinia, Italy

IISS Vincenzo Cardarelli
The Vincenzo Cardarelli Institute is composed of two main courses, the Liceo and the vocational school. The total number of our students is 760. As we have a curriculum about tourism and business our participation in this project will allow us to develop new ways of using our monuments and our cultural heritage. Furthermore, most of our students are from Tarquinia, a town which main incomes are from the primary sector and the tourism industry (the area is rich in Etruscan remains). Our Institute is also committed to the European scope of education and we believe that today school has to build a new European civic identity by communicating with other european countries and by participating in european projects such as the Erasmus +. Another motivation is to help our students to improve their skills in English in real communication. The coordianator of the italian team is Mariella Gentile.

Tarquinia, Italy

Tarquinia is an old city in the province of ViterboLazioItaly of 16.000 inhabitants known chiefly for its ancient Etruscan tombs in the widespread necropolies or cemeteries which it overlies, for which it was awarded UNESCO World Heritage status.

Although little is visible of the once great wealth and extent of the ancient city, archaeology is increasingly revealing glimpses of past glories. The main necropolis of Tarchuna, part of which can be visited today, is the Monterozzi necropolis with some 6,000 tombs, at least 200 of which include beautiful wall paintings, and many of which were tumulus tombs with chambers carved in the rock below.
