Mobility in Tarquinia, Italy (21-25 March 2022)

DAY 1

On the 21st of April, we visited the saltpans of Tarquinia (Saline di Tarquinia), located close to the ancient port. It is a natural site of extreme importance, extending for about 150 hectares. We were guided by the Italian students and the carabinieri, responsible for the place. 

Day 1

In the afternoon, the Italian students guided their partners in the historical center of Tarquinia. We visited churches in Romanesque-Gothic style and buildings with Romanesque and Baroque elements.

Day 2

On the 22nd of April, we visited Rome and learned about Roman history. We were guided to Palatino Hill, the Roman Forum, the famous squares of the Italian capital (Piazza Navona, Piazza di Spagna), Fontana di Trevi, the Pantheon. Our guides were the Italian students who had prepared short presentations for every place we visited.

On the 23d of April, we visited the Archaeological Museum of Tarquinia. We learned about the Etruscans, an ancient people whose civilization reached its height in the 6th century B.C. We read Etruscan inscriptions and learned about their alphabet. We saw sarcophagus, vessels and other objects they used.

We visited the Etrusan Necropolis of Tarquinia guided by the italian Students. Burial chambers are designed as home interiors with walls decorated by frescos representing religious and magical plays like funeral feasts, dancers, musicians playing aulòs, landscapes.

On the 24th of April, we attended a seminar by the director of Skylab Studio about the use of digital tools in touristic development and cultural heritage promotion. We had the chance to try some of the company's applications and tools. The seminar took place in the library of Tarquinia.

Day 4

We visited Semi di Pace, a humanitarian organization. We reflected on peace seeing the migrants' memorial and a train that transferred the Jews to the concentration camps.

Day 5

We visited Tuscania and Viterbo and learned about their history. Finally, we were awarded our Certificate of Attendance in front of the Palazzo Papale in Viterbo.
